Our guest speaker will be Colonel Hans V. Ritschard, USAF, Retired.
After retiring from the Air Force in 2016, Colonel Hans Ritschard joined the staff at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, where he is now the Director of Performance Improvement. He leads a variety of initiatives to ensure a culture of continuous improvement, and facilitates projects to increase efficiency and ensure the highest quality healthcare. In the greater community he has served on the Cheyenne Frontier Days General Committee as the Military Chairman, and currently serves as a Board Member of the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce and as a member of the leadership team at his church.
Hans completed a B.S. in Chemistry at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, M.A. and Ph.D. degrees at Fuller Theological Seminary, two masters degrees at Air University, a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School, and a health policy fellowship at the RAND Corporation. A board certified clinical psychologist, he has held a variety of clinical, administrative, and command/executive positions. During his Air Force career, he served as a child psychologist at Wiesbaden Air Base, Germany and RAF Lakenheath, England; and later as a mental health clinic director and interim squadron commander at Misawa Air Base, Japan. He commanded Medical Operations and Ancillary Services Squadrons in both Idaho and Ohio, and served as the Director of the Department of Defense Psychological Health Strategic Operations for the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (Force Health Protection & Readiness) at the Pentagon. In 2007-08 he deployed to Afghanistan, where he logged 4,500 miles in an active combat zone to deliver operational stress control and mental health services directly to 5,000 Coalition and Afghan forces. Prior to his present position he was the commander (CEO) of the 90th Medical Group at F. E. Warren Air Force Base, where he led 246 medical staff, serving over 21,000 Department of Defense beneficiaries in the Cheyenne area. In addition to his clinical and leadership roles, he has maintained an active program of professional scholarship in the areas of leadership development, organizational change, deployment mental health, and child psychology, and has authored some 95 professional presentations, peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, monographs/reports, and a US patent. He has been married to Carolyn for over 31 years and together they have 6 children—2 on active duty in the Air Force, 2 in college, and 2 here in Cheyenne.
