Please join us, the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce and KGWN Cheyenne, for a special Political Debate featuring Mayoral Candidates, Marian Orr and Amy Surdam. Audience attendees will have the opportunity to ask the Candidates questions. The event will be moderated by Anthony Keith, KGWN.
About Mrs. Orr (from marianorr.com):
Wyoming-raised with deep Cheyenne roots, Marian Orr has dedicated her time and service to making the community a better place to live, work, and play. Even before she had children of her own, she volunteered her time to coach Cheyenne youth soccer. As a young parent, she worked with her neighbors and city officials to turn an undeveloped and unsightly piece of land into what is now a park and playground that continues to be enjoyed by families from across Cheyenne.
Later, Marian served on the program evaluation team for United Way, where she learned of, not only the great needs within the community, but the network of services provided to Cheyenne's most vulnerable populations. Today, she is a Board of Trustee at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, committed to making CRMC a better experience for both patients and providers.
If elected mayor, Marian pledges a true open-door policy. She will be responsive and respectful. She believes the office of mayor doesn't reside within the City Building alone, but within the community at-large. She will hold regularly scheduled town hall meetings throughout Cheyenne, going to you and your neighbors rather than waiting for you to come to her.
Marian will work directly with the business community and building community to ensure the least amount of restrictive red-tape while protecting the health and safety of Cheyenne citizens. And in these times of economic downturn and fiscal uncertainty, Marian pledges sound prioritization; placing Cheyenne's needs before its wants, and together, determining what Cheyenne wants to be.
About Mrs. Surdam (from surdamformayor.com):
Amy loves Cheyenne and the people who make it great, so much so that she has stepped back from medicine to help the downtown succeed.
Additionally, she has spent the last three years and thousands of volunteer hours to start Children's Museum of Cheyenne. Why? Our children are our tomorrow. They are our workforce, our leaders, our next generation. The greatest gift we could ever give in life is to positively influence the life of a child.
There is no question that Amy has made her mark in this way, pouring heart and soul into Cheyenne. She currently works as the Executive Director of the Downtown Development Authority and the founder and President of Children's Museum of Cheyenne, however her experience doesn't stop there.
Amy has a history of service. Twenty years in healthcare and 14 years serving as an officer and health care provider in the Wyoming Army National Guard, has given her a unique understanding of the lives of community heroes.
"They are there for us, 24/7, 365 days a year. They sacrifice so much for us every single day! In the military and in healthcare, you lean on each other to get through it...it's a family."
