Anadarko Petroleum Corporation is among the world's largest independent oil and natural gas exploration and production companies. Anadarko is also among the largest producers and landowners in Wyoming, employing more than 650 people in the state. The company invested $550 million capital in 2010 and has paid $1.2 billion in taxes, royalties and salaries in the state since 2007. Current operations are in the Powder River Basin, north of Casper; the Green River Basin in the southwestern part of the state and more recently near Cheyenne, in the horizontal Niobrara play.
